Don't you just love seeing my whole pregnant body in that shiney ornament? Christmas ornaments. I bought 3 full boxes for $3.00 at the thrift store. They are light weight and easy to wrap (though not unbreakable I might add so be warned). I wrapped my fabric around them-adding a dab of hot glue here and there, and then glued them to my wreath base and ended up with a pretty summer decoration. Super easy and super cheap too.

My Version of the Styrofoam Ball Wreath
Have you seen these on Pinterest or out in blog land-styrofoam ball wreaths? I think they are super cute. I was just bound and determined I had to have one for my front door for the summer. Have you ever looked at the price of a package of styrofoam balls? They are not cheap-like $5.00 for a package of 4 or 5 (except maybe not wholesale-I never looked at those prices because that would have taken longer than I wanted anyway). I wanted to make wreath NOW. So I tried to think of other possible ways to get round shapes for a wreath and guess what I came up with:

I honestly don't know how you get so much done! When I was preggers last summer I accomplished sitting and runs to the bathroom. I was just too huge and hot. You amaze me!
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, this wreath is adorable! I have a bunch of ornaments that I bought on clearance after Christmas last year... now if only I could manage to channel your energy (having a 9 month old is so much more exhausting than carrying her for 9 months!) Thanks for sharing this brilliance, I never would have thought of ornaments!
Erin, it comes with time and a hubby who will take then kids now and then and give me craft time. Having a nine month old is not easy-your time will come.
DeleteThe wreath looks really cute on her door!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love the belly pic! And I love your wreath! You're going to laugh at me, but I hardly buy Styrofoam balls anymore bc like you said they're crazy expensive! Instead I roll old newspaper into balls and wrap them in duct tape. Super cheap, but it works! :)
ReplyDeleteThat was actually going to be my next option had I not been able to find any ornaments. i figured the ornaments would save a bit of time but the next one I make I think I might just do that because they would be a hair more pliable. I love frugal crafting.
