Dear Walmart,
Okay, so you are downsizing or eliminating a lot of your fabric departments. What is up with that? Is it because you think that there is not enough interest in sewing and fabric? If that is the case, I along with a few other bloggers could hook you up with thousands of sewing blogs in minutes which would show you that sewing is not a dying art form but is making a come back actually. Perhaps this change will not affect shoppers in large urban centers where there are lots of other choices for purchasing fabric, but for those of us podunksville folk who don't have many options this really bites. Perhaps the lack of business that your fabric departments are generating has nothing to do with the lack of interest in sewing in general and has a whole lot more to do with your crapy fabric selection (and extremely slow fabric cutting staff [at least in my neck of the woods-I won't generalize for all of our great nation]). Get some decent choices and you might just see sales boom. But you won't ever know that will you big blue. Just get rid of it all together. I would much rather shop at the "other" places anyway and now I have a good excuse to tell my husband. I guess you are doing me a favor aren't you Walmart-how kind of you.
Sincerely
Hoping there are some good clearance sales in the fabric dept. in the next few weeks.
Hun, I understand exactly how you feel. I live in GA and they've already taken the fabric departments out of all of the Wal-Marts in my area. We have like 3 super centers. I noticed that something was different, but I couldn't put my finger on it. But since I've been trying to learn how to sew, I had to call them and ask them what happen. So sad, but we do have a Jo-Anns and Michaels around the way.
ReplyDeleteOurs closed theirs a couple of years ago. It was sad. They ran all other fabric shops in our town out of business and then they got rid of their fabric section. Now if I need fabric I have to drive to the next town over which is about 30 mins. I hate it.
ReplyDeleteBummer. My Walmart-far away tho it is, never had fabric. But, my mom's did and that was always a fun excursion. I make a lot of "I SpY' quilts and Walmart had the best kids fabric. :(
ReplyDeleteBTW, I always love your Dear Walmart letters. I too have a love/hate relationship with them.
I agree with you!!!!my walmart is in the city and I think ours was the first to go. so I went to another walmart down the way...noticed that they were putting stuff on clearence, then they cut down the craft section. Two down. I still have one more walmart that is still kinda close and I try to get fabric there, so walmart will get a clue...I go shopping there for the craft section and may not buy anything, but it does get me to go their store instead of target or the grocery store. i loved walmart because you can go shopping, get your oil done, hair done..(I haven't tried that yet...), get the kids airsoft supplies, and check out the craft section all in one trip. everyone was happy.
