So "fortune"ate to have you as my Valentine

Last year I made some Valentine fortune cookies for my husband that I saw in a Martha Stewart Magazine. They were made out of felt and were really easy and cute to make. I am sure you can find them on her website if you wanted to make some. I wanted to do the same thing this year, but I found this new idea for paper fortune cookies so I wanted to try these instead. I found them really easy to make, except the folding is a bit tricky (once you do one, you could crank em out in no time). I found the idea at For the Love of Paper . I thought that I would post a tutorial on how to make them right here, but you should still check out this blog. She has great paper craft ideas.

Start by tracing circles on the wrong side of a piece of card stock. I used various shades of pink for valentines day. I used a mug for my template. I didn't want them to be too big. I think smaller fortune cookies look cuter. Next you will fold it up like a little taco.
Instead of fortunes, I typed up lines like "This entitles you to a Saturday with the guys" and "This entitles you to no dishes for 4 days" Cut the words into thin strips and lay inside the taco.
Now, this is the tricky part. Hold the taco in between your fingers and press up gently in the center to make a little fold. (You do this using one of your free fingers) It doesn't have to be right in the center. You kind of have to just make the paper do what you want it to do. (Don't be too gentle)
Fold both sides down like a fortune cookie
The tops will overlap like this.
Tear a small piece of double side tape like this...

And place it here (sorry the picture is a bit blurry)
Refold and pinch the top slightly. I had some little Chinese take-out boxes that I put mine in. You can find them at craft stores. I know I saw some at Michaels
Crafts if you have one of those near by. I think they make a totally cute gift. Lots of possibilities.
