Okay blogging friends here is set 1 of baby items that are for sale. I have more so if you don't see anything you like stay tuned (it is just a lot of work getting each thing photographed these days but I will soon I promise. It is the weekend, my husband is home more, I shall find the time). Fall Wreath Tutorial

Here is the long overdue fall wreath tutorial I showed you a sneak peak of a while back.

I started with a wreath I bought at the thrift store (I have spared you a look at the tacky decorations that were on it when I got it.)

For the leaves I fused two pieces of fabric together with Heat N Bond in the middle. I took all these fabric pieces to the elementary school and used their die cuts to cut out the leaves. You could do this same thing at a lot of craft stores (which have die cuts available to use) or you could free hand them all. I wanted some of the leaves to curl when placed on the wreath so I brushed a coat of Modge Podge on the front side of some of them and laid them in between some glasses to dry so that the edges would curl. Here is a picture of some with and without the glue.

I then glued the leaves all over my wreath base. Gotta love the smell of your hot glue gun at work.

Next to make the pumpkins. These are super easy and you don't even have to worry about perfection because they look more rustic when you don't. To make a pumpkin cut out a rectangle piece of fabric, any size will do. I think these were about 8x9 or so. I wanted small pumpkins so I kept my rectangle small. If you want taller pumpkins start with a rectangle that is tall and skinny.

Sew the sides seams together with the right sides of the fabric together. I think mine were about 1/4 inch seams. Again, it doesn't matter.

Will look like this when done.

Using a needle and thread do a running stitch around the bottom edge of the rectangle while you still have the wrong sides out.

Gather this up tight.

You could just do a few hand stitches to anchor it or put the whole thing under the presser foot of your sewing machine and sew over it like this.

Now turn this piece right side out. This is a look at the bottom of the pumpkin now.

Stuff this but not too full. I didn't want my pumpkins really firm.

Once again, using a needle and thread do a running stitch all around the top of the fabric and pull it tight. This time do a few stitches back and forth from one side to the other to hold it together.

Now push your needle down through the center and out the bottom of the pumpkin like this and pull tight. Then go the opposite direction and once more down through the bottom. At the bottom tie off your thread. This will create an indent in the center of your pumpkin.

For the stem I went down our back alley to find someone with a dead tree and cut off one of the branches. I then cut off small pieces for the stems.
Hot glue the stem in the center of the indent.

Lastly you need vine curly cues. For these I cut a piece of wire (the length really depends on how much curly cue you want).

I covered the wire using floral tape and the one skill I remember from my college floral arranging class.

To cover the wire wrap the floral tape around the top of the wire and start pulling the tape downward while twisting the wire. Stretching the tape makes it sticky and it will stick to itself. You want to wrap tightly. Pull and tear when you reach the bottom.

Wrap your wire around a pencil like this to make it curly.

Hot glue these in place around the stem. You could make leaves too if you want. I didn't want to for these.

I then glued these to my wreath too. Not too many, you don't want it to look tacky.

Hang with a ribbon, and there you have it. I couldn't wait any longer to put it up. I have a ton of these fabric pumpkins in various sizes for my house decorations and I think I will be getting those out next week. Can't wait until October.

Fall is in the air

We are experiencing fall temps the last few days and I LOVE IT!!!!! In fact, not that any of you have wondered, cared or will find this news life changing, but I actually put on long pants today for the first time since July when we were in Canada. I have worn shorts or capris (the same 3 prego pairs) since then but today I dawned my pregnant jeans for the first time (of course I was sweating and about ready to pass out from overheating at 11am after my walk but that is beside the point). Dear Fall, I love you.

I have a bunch of stuff left over from my baby creations booth that I am going to advertise for sale here first before I try anywhere else. So stay tuned, that should be coming in a day or two. I wanted to post it all tonight but the hour is late and I am one tired pregnant woman so keep checking back and tell your friends.

Melon Days Review

Well thank you to everyone who wished me good luck with my booth at Melon Days. I think it was a pretty good success (a lot better than I thought it would be) and I am not disappointed that I did it at all (though it was nice to wake up Monday morning and not have to worry about getting Melon Days projects done). I got alot of great compliments from people that stopped at my booth and I made a bit of money too. For those who said they wish they could come, here's what you missed.
Can you believe that more than one person actually thought the "Small Fry & Co." sign was for sale?

Here I displayed binkie clips, diaper cards, and 'lil "guy"ser visors. The "guy"ser visors were one of the biggest hits ( I think it is because of the name [thanks hubby for the help.]) You could just see the lights go on in peoples heads as they read the label.

I hung my banners from clothes lines around the booth and displayed onesies and hair clips and change pads on the table. I have been working on this stuff since June but it wasn't until I started putting it all out that I realized just how much I had.

Change pads and booties. The booties were a hit also.

I displayed my burp cloth cupcakes on this cake stand along with some flower hair clips. (Can you also believe that a lady actually smelled the hair clip. Did she think it was real?) The burp cloth cupcakes were also a huge hit. People thought they were so cute. That was a real feather in my cap. They loved the packaging (not enough to buy all of them but those who bought them thought they were so fun). It was fun to watch people look at them and then discover what they were.

And here are some of the bibs and the change pad clutches (which I didn't sell one of. I think people thought they looked too big. I have a solution to that problem. I will post that later when I post what I have left over for sale).

Here are a few more highlight moments from the day:

-the first time grandmother who came and looked at everything and then said, "I am going to be a grandma for the first time I think I will get this" (a $1.00 burp cloth). That is it. Sorry lady but you are one cheap grandma.

-the lady who came in and proceeded to ask me how I made everything. I am talking from what materials were used, to what was in the middle of the change pads, to where I got the patterns from. I thought, "you are kidding me. Here I am selling this stuff for dirt cheap and you want all my secrets, tips and patterns." I mean I have looked and things and wondered in my head how I could reproduce the same thing at home (what creative person hasn't) but I haven't been bold enough to ask.

-the lady who asked what booth was mine and then picked up items one after the other and asked if I made it. "What part of 'I made all of this' didn't she understand?"

But the best were the two pregnant women who ooed and ahhed over everything and had the hardest time deciding what to spend their money on. It was customers like that that made every second of work worth it.

Thanks to everyone for your support and my mother in law for letting me use some of her space to sell all of it.
Lastly here are the family melon munchers. What a super cute bunch they are.

Melon Cookies

On Friday before all the Melon Days festivities I decided to whip up a batch of Melon Cookies for the family (not like I had scads of free time or anything but it just seemed appropriate for the occasion. I get that from my mom-adding on another project when I am already overloaded with many projects). They were really easy to make and turned out really cute. Here is a quick tutorial.
Start with sugar cookie dough and add food coloring to make it green.

Cut out circles. I used a cup for my cutter because even though I have about a hundred cookie cutters I only have one small circle.

Cut the circle in half.

Using a small flower shaped cutter, cut out what would be the teeth marks from taking a big huge bite (and let me tell you with Green River melons, there is no such thing as a small bite).

Bake and they will look like this.

Now for the frosting. I will admit 100% that I am all about canned frosting. I used to make my own but people, why make your own when you can get this stuff on sale for .99cents sometimes and you don't have to get out your hand mixer. It dries firm and keeps cookies soft. Well anyway, I had some cherry frosting in my food storage so that was perfect because I didn't even have to color it.

Spread your frosting and add some mini chocolate chips and viola melon cookies!!

What a week.

Wow, where has the time gone? This week has been insanely busy but very rewarding. I managed to get everything out of my old craft room and into my new, clean the old craft room (and let me tell you it was a disaster zone), I finished my melon days booth projects, I painted both a dresser and a book shelf for Small Fry's new room, I baked bread, I canned pickled beets, I planted Irises, I kept Small Fry entertained and I even completed my first fall project of the year. Here is a sneak peak. I will be posting a tutorial next week when I start getting out all of my fall stuff.
